IDC carried out a comprehensive action research for Save the Children of Sri Lanka, an international NGO working for the betterment of the children. The aim of the research was to find out the impact of mothers’ migration on children and families. The research has been conducted with a sample of 1,800 mother migrant families in Kurunegala and Colombo districts in Sri Lanka.
Several Adverse impacts of mother migration on their children including child abuses, drug addition, low performance in educational activities, mental depression, were found to be prevalent. Accordingly, IDC recommended appropriate mitigatory measures. The outcome of the research was published by the Save the Children Fund, and was highly acclaimed by the relevant authorities.
